Raise or level a sagging panel so it rolls freely and the lock lines up again.

How to Adjust Sliding Door Rollers

Most sliding doors have two adjustment screws near the bottom corners of the panel. Turning them raises or lowers the rollers. A panel that has sagged rubs the track, sticks, and stops lining up with its lock.

Steps

  1. Find the adjustment holes

Look at the bottom of the panel on the inside face, near each end. You will usually see a small round hole or a plug covering one.

  2. Remove any plugs

Pop out plastic caps with a flat screwdriver so you can reach the screw behind them.

  3. Turn a quarter turn at a time

Clockwise usually raises the door; counterclockwise lowers it. Turn one side a quarter turn, then check before going further.

  4. Even it out

Adjust both ends so the gap at the top is even across the panel and the door does not rub anywhere.

  5. Check the lock

Close the door and try the latch. If it now catches cleanly, you are done. If not, raise or lower slightly and try again.

  6. Stop if the screw spins

If the screw turns but nothing moves, or the door will not rise at all, the roller housing is broken or the wheel is worn flat.

When to call a pro

When adjustment does nothing, the rollers need replacing. That means lifting the panel out, which is heavy work. See the replacement guide or find a pro.
