Handles crack in the Florida sun and loosen with daily use. Most can be replaced without removing the door, as long as the new handle matches the screw-hole spacing on your panel.
Steps
Measure the hole spacing
Remove one screw at a time and measure center to center between the screw holes. This is the number that matters most.
Note the latch style
Check whether your handle works a hook latch inside the panel and whether the lever moves up/down or sideways.
Buy a matching set
Match the hole spacing and lever style. Pick a color or finish that suits your frame.
Remove the old handle
Take out the screws from the inside handle; the outside handle usually comes off with it.
Install the new set
Line up the lever with the latch tail, fit both sides and tighten the screws snugly, not so hard that the plastic cracks.
Test the latch
Lock and unlock several times with the door closed.

If the lever turns but the door still will not lock, the latch inside the panel may be broken or the panel may be sagging.
