Sliding doors are a common entry point because older locks are weak and some panels can be lifted out of the track. These upgrades help.
- Fix the existing lock so it catches firmly. A sagging panel is the most common reason locks fail.
- Add a foot lock or a second lock at the bottom of the panel.
- Use a security bar or a cut dowel in the track.
- Install anti-lift blocks or screws in the top channel so the panel cannot be lifted out.
- Replace a worn handle and latch set with a keyed one if you want outside access control.
- Add a door sensor if you have an alarm system.
- Consider impact glass if you are replacing a pane anyway.
Child-safety locks mounted high on the frame are worth adding in homes with pools.
